Three Ways to Grow Your Email List

There is so much power in building an email list – a list of subscribers, that’s why it is the foundation of my very business!  It should be a priority of your business – to get started building a list of subscribers and then continue to increase the number of folks on it.  These are individuals that you have permission to contact via email.  They have an interest in what your business offers, and they may be folks that are lookers, browsers, or buyers.  Trying to conduct email marketing manually through your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is not allowed usually, and I highly recommend AWeber to help with this – you can test drive for 30 days.

It is important to continually provide value and appeal to their needs.  This does many things but will most importantly provide help to them on their journey, build the relationship between you, and ensure a long-term friendship where they’ll be inclined to buy from you again and again down the road.  They won’t have to think twice about doing so either!  Being on your email list means that these people get information from you that’s informative and helps them to grow, which helps them develop trust in you.  People buy from folks they know, like and trust!

Top 3 Ways To Successfully Increase Your Email ListOffer Something For Free

Everyone loves to get something valuable for free.  If you offer a free newsletter, report, eBook, or other item of benefit to them in exchange for that information, you’ll be able to get many folks willing to add their info to join your email list.  Make sure you’re clear about what you offer them and that all they need to do is sign up to instantly access it!

What you offer them for free doesn’t have to be expensive.  Since they get access to it online, there is no waiting and no Top 3 Ways To Successfully Increase Your Email Listshipping fees to hassle with.  Take great care to make sure this free offering is something that will SOLVE a problem, something that will be extremely valuable to your target audience.  If the consumer isn’t happy with it, they surely won’t be inclined to remain on your email list for long.  By providing them with something that will benefit them and help to solve a problem they have, they’ll see you and your business as one they can trust.  They will also be more inclined to spend their money on what you sell.  Again, folks buy from people they know, like and trust.

Deliver what you say you will – keep your word!  This goes along the lines of having integrity and honesty and will pretty much make it nearly impossible for them to be disappointed.  Make sure you test out links and have a very clear message about what you will deliver.  If you don’t, any trust they had in you will be broken and they will NEVER buy what you sell.  Consumers are tired of gimmicks and disappointment!

Tell Them Why It Is A Good Idea For Them To Sign Up

Top 3 Ways To Successfully Increase Your Email ListAlways promote what you can deliver to them in a manner that makes them feel like they would be crazy to pass it up!  By telling them why it is a good idea for them to sign up (listing benefits), they will.  Highlighting the WIIFM – “what’s in it for me?” – is THE most important component of presenting the free gift.  This is a split second decision, and you don’t want them to leave the page without signing up.  They’re not going to want to miss out on the opportunity to get what you are providing.

Make It Easy!

Time is precious to everyone, so don’t take advantage of it.  The process for signing up needs to very fast and easy.  They should be able to do it in less than a minute.  Don’t use a complex form that asks for lots of information.  All you need from them is an email address to add them to your list.  Follow these three tips and your list will continue to grow and be a huge asset regarding the success of your business.  List building is the foundation of my business model and many other successful big name marketers.  Avoid having regrets later by making sure to implement these strategies today.

In my opinion, email marketing is essential to success and the subscriber list is the most important and valuable asset an entrepreneur can have.

Hi Carol. You’re right, the more information you ask in your opt-in form from a prospect, the less subscribers you get. Unfortunately many newbies (and not only!) don’t understand this simple concept.

    Hey Carol,

List building has always been my number 1 source of income and I have used these three tips to achieve the results I have. The most important piece I see is to give away “something that will be extremely valuable to your target audience”.

Super valuable tip right there! :)

    Thanks a bunch,

      Hi Anita,

Yes, it should be but it depends on what they are taught FIRST, and in many cases, unfortunately, it’s not list building..

I appreciate your kind words. Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts. :)

    Carol,
If this is a duplicate comment from me please delete it. I clicked on the Tweet link before I clicked on the submit link so I don’t think my comment posted.

As always I get good information as well as reminders of things I know I should be doing any time I read one of your blog posts, which is any time you make one, I think.

I seem to be doing well with my list building but I do have one question.

You did such a good job of getting us to change from reading email messages to reading blog posts I don’t seem to recall how you did it.

I can’t seem to get people to click on the blog post links in my messages. Did I miss something? Do you have any advice?

    Many Blessings,
    Dr. Clyde

      Hello Clyde!

I appreciate your kind words – thank you!

Well, what I do is share myself with my readers….my personality, what I’m doing…because it’s all interwoven with what I do each day in my office for my online business.

      Just be real.

First goal is to get an email OPENED. Subject lines are critically important to your success in email marketing.

There are a bunch of tutorials and free helps for creating a great headline, but I always try to accomplish two things….

      Create curiosity or excitement.

Next goal is to get the click. Tell them WIIFM….(what’s in it for me) and try to create intrigue….to get the click.

I think I shall have to do a blog post about this, great topic!

      Hope to help. :-)
