Overcoming Your Fears
It’s been said that fear is the number one killer of joy, productivity and success so let’s discuss the topic of Overcoming Your Fears. Fear can make us stagnate in our comfort zone and never reach out to take that next step in our businesses and personal life toward exploring new avenues of personal growth and increasing income leading to ultimate success.
We all have different fears and concerns. My great fear during creating a successful Internet marketing business was producing videos. It scared me to death, and I tried everything rather than stepping up to that video that would get me out there – all my flaws exposed.
Finally, I reluctantly decided that the video had to be made, and I had to get over the fear of looking perfect on camera or stumbling over my own words. I knew that the only way I could overcome that fear and add that great feature to my site is to do it! I won’t say that after the first video, I was over the fear, but now it’s not scary to me, and I gained lots of self-confidence by following through with making videos.
Your fears may include branding yourself as an expert in your niche, not finding a profitable niche, fear of posting on forums such as the Warrior Forum. Whatever your fears, you must take steps to overcome them before your business can be the success you want it to be.
You may have fears in your personal life that you need to overcome. Fear of public speaking, socializing, confronting a toxic relationship in your life or being on your own can be paralyzing. Sometimes you just have to make it happen to get over it. Read on to discover some ways you might face and say goodbye to fears in your life.
Steps to Overcome Fears that Keep You from Success
You’ve likely heard of people swimming with sharks to overcome a fear of them – or climbing a skyscraper to overcome a fear of heights. Most of us wouldn’t go to that extreme. But, many of us have fears that keep us from personal growth and business success.
Some fears are easy to identify. Fear of making a video was easily identified and the answer to overcoming that fear was obvious. But some are more complicated than that and have become habits that you don’t even recognize as a full-blown fear that’s keeping you from realizing the success you desire.
Here are some thoughts and exercises to consider as you take those fears – one-by-one – and give them the send-off they deserve.
- Find Your Passion – If you’re in a career that zaps you of your confidence and self-worth, you’re going to be fearful of taking on new responsibilities and of taking the next step to advance.
Examine the reasons for disinterest in what you’re doing. If you’re just not in to Internet marketing and you don’t feel excitement and passion about creating new products and connecting with others in your niche, it’s probably not for you.
- Name Your Fears – Unless you know what your fears are you can’t do anything about them. If you’re afraid of asking another Internet marketer if he or she would be interested in a joint venture, think to yourself, “What’s the absolute worst that could happen?”
Chances are, the worst thing that could happen is that the other marketer would decline the offer. Don’t take it personally. The problem is likely nothing to do with your abilities or niche, but something entirely different.
- Admit Your Fears – Sometimes it’s best to just get those fears out in the open and admit them to your followers, in a forum or through a blog. Then, stand back and get ready for the deluge of help and admissions of the same fear from others who empathize with you.
You’ll be amazed at how many people have the exact same fears as you and how much they admire you for stepping forward and admitting them. You’ll also receive information that might help you as it has helped others.
- Have Your Fears Turned Into Habits? – Bad habits are easy to form in your life – especially if they’re serving a purpose in some way or another. An example of a fear that’s turned into a habit is a relationship gone bad. You might be fearful of breaking off the relationship because of financial reasons or because you fear being alone.
The relationship that’s already over may morph into a habit that’s hard to break. In business, you could be afraid to take it one step farther and make that video or join that forum. That habit involves doing nothing rather than stepping up to overcome the fear.
After you’ve identified your fears and faced them for what they are, do a little self-analyzing to find out where they originated. Were you always frustrated with your appearance or have you recently gained weight that makes you think you can’t possibly create a video for all to see?
Taking the first step to overcoming fear means that you may have to act while you’re still afraid or insecure. Do it anyway. You’ll be amazed at how each fear you overcome will empower you to move forward.
Empower Yourself by Overcoming Your Fears
Each time you overcome a fear that keeps you from personal or business goals you empower yourself a bit more. Look at the Internet marketing gurus of today and read their stories. They were once where you and I are and kept plugging along to work through their fears.
Some of their fears may be the exact same ones you’re working through. Many have had both personal and business fears that they’ve struggled with to find creative solutions for.
Focus on the end result of overcoming those fears and change the way you think about them. Only you can create a fearless life that leads to the ultimate success of both your business and your personal relationships.
I’m in your corner cheering for you - you can do it! :)
