How to Create an Amazon Affiliate Link

January 17, 2013

By Carol Amato

Affiliate marketing is a large part of Internet marketing, and knowing how to create an Amazon affiliate link is essential if you want to secure your affiliate commissions.  The percentage of payout is pretty low, but since this is a “set and forget” type of work, it pays to put a little time into it.

Securing Your Affiliate Commisions at Amazon

I would like to demonstrate how to get your affiliate link for different products you’d like to promote in Amazon.  Now, here I am – I’ve logged into my Amazon account.

Read or Watch Video – Your Choice…

Click Arrow to Play, then double click for full screen…

Create an Amazon Affiliate Link

I’m on the Links & Banners tab, and I’m going to go to the sub menu and choose Product Links, and click Product Links.  Here I’m going to search for something that I’d like to promote.

Let’s say Camtasia, and you’ll see that lots of products with Camtasia populate – There are a lot of different varieties.  You would go through to choose which one you’d like to promote.  I’m going to go ahead and promote Camtasia Sudio 8, because that’s what I have, and I’m going to get the link.

On the right-hand side I’m going to click the yellow button: Get Link.

Then, I’m going to click on Text Only tab.  There may be a different way or different ways to get your affiliate link, but this is how I do it.

I click on Text Only, scroll down, I open this window a little bit where it says: Get HTML Code for This Product Link.

I’m going to put my cursor right before the HTTP in this first line.  Then, I’m going to drag my mouse to highlight this entire long URL, all the way to the other quotation mark.

How to Create an Amazon Affiliate Link

So I’ve got – right before the HTTP for the URL all the way through to the very end – right before the quotation mark highlighted with my mouse.

On a Mac you can choose Command C for copy;  on a PC you can choose Control C for copy.  You would click Command C or Control C  to copy this URL to your clipboard.

Then you would go over here to Link Checker,  on the left-hand menu and click on Link Checker.  Enter That URL by Clicking Command V or Control V to paste in that URL you just copied.

Click on Check Link.   Very Good – Success!  Now this URL is linked to my Associate ID in Amazon,  so I am listed as the affiliate.  I am listed as the Amazon Associate, and if somebody clicks on this URL to buy something, whether it be Camtasia or anything else in Amazon, I would get the affiliate commissions for that.

If you are going to promote Amazon products, it’s certainly in your best interest to confirm that your links are working correctly – as it’s a lot of effort to get traffic, and you want to make sure your hard work is rewarded.

Hi Carol, thank you for this training, I liked it very much.

I have a question for you, I see all of this buttons at you site, 22, tweet , like 8, fllike, 3, etc. how do they work on your promotional, do they increase your followers? and also in order to advertiser in facebook and tweeter or you tube, how expensive is that?.
I am not ready for anything like that, but I am curious about that. can you help?

    • http://ccamato.net Carol Amato

      Hello Rosa,

You are welcome – I’m glad to help. :-)

Yes, adding the social media buttons does increase the number of followers I get.

I don’t advertise on Facebook, so I can’t really speak personally about that.

Wishing you all the best. :-)

Hi Carol – Why do you only use a portion of the code provided by Amazon? Is using the entire code a problem?

    Thanks for making this video.

      Hi Patricia,

I was “grabbing” (copying and pasting) the direct URL link, but they do have code available for widgets to display on your site, etc.
You are welcome, I enjoy video! :-)
