Five Tips To Keep You On Track

Five Tips To Keep You On Track In Your Online Business
  #1.  Have the Right Attitude
AttitudeHaving the right attitude and mindset is a critical part of becoming an Internet marketing entrepreneur.  This isn’t a bunch of mumbo jumbo stuff like…”Think positive and everything in your life will be a bed of roses. “No!  Hurdles will come that you’ll need to get over.

You’ll need persistence and motivation in large doses to keep you going when things are not growing as fast as you’d like them to. Beliefs of self-doubt will start to kick in, doubts of your abilities and skill level, fear that you’ll fail and never be successful – you’ll start to think of every excuse in the world why you can’t do this.  It’s crucial to be prepared for this when it comes. Have the right attitude.
#2.  Remember It Is a Layering Process

layering processEach step builds on top of another.  No one step is insignificant if it’s part of a bigger one and part of your goal.  We don’t start out right away building the greatest, biggest and most successful project of all.

The initial step is to lay the first brick of your foundation down as best you can. Then you move on to the next brick, and then the next. Very soon you’ll have built a great project by taking steps in order as it is a layering process.
#3.  Be Productive By Taking In Less Information
information overloadWe’ve all experienced information overload!  Our brains cannot be creative to produce new information while taking IN information at the same time. If you already have everything you need to take your next step – take it!

Control your intake of information so that you don’t get overwhelmed and DON’T become paralyzed by all the information pouring in. You will start producing more when you stop allowing too much information to sidetrack you. Delete emails that are not contributing to helping complete your current project.
#4.  Knight In Shining Amour Will Not Save You

no one will save youNo one will come save you from your woes. There is no magic tool, service, product, program, WordPress plug-in or coaching program that will get you where you want to go. The ONLY person that can do that is YOU. This is accomplished by literally diving in head first and taking massive action towards your goal.

These other things can help make things convenient and help you work more efficiently, but no one will rescue you by doing it all for you.
See another valuable post called 5 Top Ways to Balance Personal Life with Your Online Business . In the end, all of your goals, all of the things you are striving for are dependent on you and accomplished by you.

Remember, mistakes are not the end of the world.  We need to remember that the question is not whether or not you’ll make mistakes.  Rather, are you ready to work through them when they happen?  If you negatively affect other people by your mistakes, you can offer an apology and learn from it.  Learn to accept your shortcomings and failures and turn them into growing seasons.

#5.  Celebrate Your Accomplishments

This is something I do on a regular basis. When I got my first opt-in, I was hooting and hollering throughout the house and my family started to celebrate with me.  When I made my first dollar online, I rewarded myself with a special treat.

Constantly remind yourself of where you were and how far you’ve come already! Make sure you don’t take for granted the skills, knowledge and experiences you’ve acquired since the beginning. Acknowledge your growth and celebrate your small successes and accomplishments.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

I see that I am not the only one that needs help, I’m still trying to come up with a niche and I have no website, don’t know how to do that. I do like your advise about not getting overwhelmed, it sure can feel like your being bombarded at times. How do you start a website, or make a website, and is a website the same as a landing page?
How do you get paid by putting items on Facebook? Hope I’m not asking to many questions. Thank You for your input.

            • Carol Amato

              Hi Marian,

I had all of those questions when I was first starting, so can definitely relate. I highly recommend reading my Start Here page where I share what I did to get started. Then, please ask a specific question, and I’d be glad to answer.

              Hope to encourage you! :-)

Carol, I want to say Thank you very much for those five tips, It was just what I need to hear, because in the last few days I have really been taking in to much information to fast, and I was really starting to feel overwhelm, I really enjoy tips 1and 3 but to be honest all five of them is great, and it was just what I needed to make me continue believing that I can do this, I am still reading Anthony book profit from home, which i just receive in the mail a couple of day ago, I am kind of a slow reader, but the book is so great. I do have so doubt about if I can do this but I just have to go with faith that it will happen if I truly put in the work. Anthony is a wonderful man and human being. I still will have to wait until I get more funds so I can let one of his team member help me set up my website. Did you have to have someone help you set up your website? Anyway I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate that e-mail it made my day. Thank Again!!!!!!

        • Carol Amato

          You’re welcome, David.

I can really relate to information overload as it used to really get me down. Now I focus on the one task I want to accomplish and shut out anything that does not help me achieve that goal.

I have a hosting account with BlueHost and installed a free WordPress blog from BlueHost.

I am glad you benefited from the email I sent; makes MY day! :)

  • Bailey

Great tips. I thought the two most powerful were the idea there is no one-step solution and that mistakes are not the end of the world.

    • Carol Amato

      Thank you, Bailey.

I am still learning and growing every day and re-read these tips when needed

I am so glad to have been a help.

      Have a wonderful day,

  • Daryl

Thanks Carol! Sometimes it feels like “Overload” is to light of a word. These steps are going to help me focus and keep my head organized. So many emails come in and I feel I spend all day trying to see where to start. I need to take a step back and just do one thing at a time. Thanks for waking me up and making me realize that I don’t have to read every email.

    • Carol Amato

      You’re welcome, Daryl.

      I enjoying helping others.

Thanks for stopping by. – Carol

  • James Magee

    Hi Carol,

I have gotten so very much out of your email. Please put my yahoo address into your advertising, which is . My personal is the frontier address. (the one above)

I like your plan and hope I can return the favor.

If I sign up for any additional programs, I want to sign up with the ones you can get credit for.

    • Carol Amato

      Hello, James!

I am so glad that you have enjoyed the info
      I have provided.

I went to add your yahoo address as requested,
but it is already in the system as well, so no worries.

I certainly appreciate the referrals, every
      little bit helps!

  • tom

    Thanks Carol,
That #3 is my big issue. Got to spead that time to learning and getting things done. :)

    • Carol Amato

Hi, Tom…Yeah, it is a big issue for everyone at one time or another. :)

Focusing on the task that will help you achieve your CURRENT goal is most important.

      Have a great weekend.

    • Carol Amato

Yep, it is a balancing act for sure.

Thanks for stopping by. – Carol

  • Sheila

Your information and detail to aid in getting started and continuing to the goal is just what I needed. I will now STOP all the info overload. I knew it was getting me down but thought I just HAD to have it all. Thanks for the “permission” to put a stop to it and for making me face that of course I will make mistakes as everyone does.
    Can’t thank you enough
    Be Blessed

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Sheila,

Yes, information overload is a “disease” that affects all of us at one point or another. Focus is the key – focus on the task that will help you achieve your current goal and don’t allow any interruptions unless emergencies…… :)

      Have a great day.

  • Tony

Fantastic tips again Carol….I am so glad I have found you..and wish I found you earlier!
Your information is clear, honest and very rewarding.

I downloaded the Banner creation software…for free..absolutely thanks for that.

My tip would be to any newbie…follow decent marketers like you, Jim Cockrum…decent and honest marketers.

Info overload is definitely a problem..but if you follow decent folk..and learn from them, you will get the right results.

“If You want to be successful……copy someone who is”

    Thanks again Carole

    • Carol Amato

I appreciate your kind words, Tony and am so glad to be able to help. I try very hard to pass along the free programs that I come across because we are all on a budget. :)

Yeah, I came across Jim Cockrum during my eBay days – he’s great, although I don’t really take time to read his newsletter anymore. Maybe I’ll go back and catch up.

That is exactly MY philosophy….find someone with integrity and do what they DO, not what they say necessarily…

Thanks for stopping by. – Carol

  • Cynthia H.

    Hello Carol
I enjoyed your tips very much. I am a victim of the overloader, trying to get as much info. as I can. But you are right, Its best to get a little at a time and obsorb that in then get more. I am still reading Anthony book profits from home, very interesting. When can I start posting my advertising? I will need help on it, because I am very lost.

    • Carol Amato

I started with list building. Then I focused on affiliate marketing…. Have you watched my Golden Nuggets – Internet Marketing Basics video, a 43-minute training on how I am making money? It shows my business model and would give you an idea of what steps I took to get to where I am. Shoot me an email (contact page on blog) and I’ll send you the link if you don’t have it.

Hope to help and thanks for stopping by. – Carol

    • Carol Amato

      Hey Cynthia,

It’s been a long time since this comment – I’m here if you need help.

      Take Care,

    • Carol Amato

      Hey Cynthia,

I’ve built my business on the foundation of list building. What market are you interested in? – Carol

  • Lourdes

    Sep 21, 2011
Hi Ms. Carol. Nice meeting you by email. I appreciate your generosity of explaining in detail the process of making money online or creating a business online. I enjoyed the webinar video: “Golden Nuggets for Newbies” and also the tips you provided in this other email; and frankly I must say I’m indeed a “newbie” on this field. When I got to the
part in which you suggested that we think of something we enjoy and are knowledgeable
about I must admit that I enjoy many things but don’t think I’m too knowledgeable to start
speaking about it fluently and with ease. I would rather say that I’m interested first in starting as an affiliate (promoting other people’s products) till I get more experience and training. Also, I have to put some things in order and organize my schedule while I read through the material you are providing. I appreciate your honesty and willingness to invest time and effort on your part to help others (you seem truthful and genuinely christian, thank God I found you someone so trustworthy, but bear with me while I get ready to start and lastly put me in your prayers for I’m going through some tough time). This is my second languate, but I love to be able to practice it. Thank you for everything.
    Sincerely, Lourdes.

    • Carol Amato

      Hello Lourdes,

You’re welcome, I really enjoy helping others learn how to get started making money online.

I started with affiliate marketing….AFTER getting a lead-generating system in place so that I could start right away with list building. That is the foundation of my business.
It’s good that you want to organize first and have things in order. I’ll be praying for you as you work through your challenges.
      Take Care,
      – Carol

  • Dennis Ward

Carol, Thank you for sending me these five tips of to much information overload. I will read these again when I feel stress coming on.

    • Carol Amato

You’re welcome, Dennis – It is a great help – I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and am glad that me learning along the way and sharing that can help others.
Have a great day. – Carol

  • Jody Anthony Thompson

    Good advice.

    • Carol Amato

      Hey Jody,

      Glad to help! :)
      – Carol

  • Jo Ann Haltiwanger

Hello Carol, Thanks for the information you sent to me and just to let you know I am suffering from information overload. I want to be successful at this but I have a fear that I will not remember everything that I need to. Yet I want to klnow how to work this program to bad. I will continue to review the five steps that you sent to me.

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Jo Ann,

Information overload is pretty normal for starting out. I suffered with it and still can if I’m not careful. You actually have to have a balance of learning and taking action, intake and output……a balance. Because if you just learn and learn and learn……you go nuts, but if you take action on what you learn….it all starts to make sense with regards to that part, then you learn something else and take action…. etc..

      Hope t o help. :)
      – Carol

      • Jo Ann Haltiwanger

Hello Carol. My next question is the website. How do I handle this?

        • Carol Amato

          Hey Jo Ann,

What website are you referring to? I started with a squeeze page, then installed a free blog on my Bluehost account…

          Let me know, Carol

  • Jody Anthony Thompson

    Good to know. Thanks Carol.

    • Carol Amato

You’re welcome, Jody – Thanks for stopping by. – Carol

  • Clara Leake

I’m having to start over again. Had extensive neck surgery on July 7th, 2011. When I was ready to go back to work I had no job. I’m a Registered Nurse working for a Home Health Company for over 10 years. With no funds coming in I had to drop my sites, autoresponder (Aweber), and hosting. I’m very interedted in writing about Rheumatoid Arthritis since I have a very severe case. My problem is finding a niche name. I was thinking about “Chronicity of Illnesses.” What do you think. Do you have any other suggestions?

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Clara,

I’m sorry for your physical challenges!
Regarding choosing a name, first of all you need to think about keywords and how much they are searched. Second of all, is that word “chronicity” common enough for normal folks to know it if they aren’t an RN? Don’t think so… Also, it sounds very negative, although I realize the topic is a serious one. You want the title to give hope!!

Check out Google’s Keyword Tool to see how many searches globally are listed for the different keywords you’re interested in using in your title.

Make sure there is a market FIRST……then proceed…

      Hope to help.
      – Carol

  • Clara Leake

Carol, I agree with your five tips. I have been in information overload. I’m very familiar with Anthony Morrison, Tellman Knudson, Brian Edmondson, and Jimmy Brown. I like each of them. However I haven’t made any money yet and need to do so desperately. I have Anthony’s free website, but I need training on where to post the products.

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Clara,

I DON’T suggest spending another minute on that freebie, cookie cutter site that THOUSANDS of other people have also….

Use the Search feature on the right side of my blog, to type in any term that you are wondering about. For example, type in “niche” and hit Enter on your keyboard. You will see all the posts on my blog about finding your niche..

Have you watched my video? That is a great place to start as I give a challenge to get started at the end.

      Hope to help. :)

      – Carol

  • Terry

I guess it is worth remembering one’s roots to make sure that the journey ahead continues to be meaningful.

You’re welcome, Terry – glad to help. Have a great week. :) – Carol

  • Ann Moore

I really appreciate your tips. Information overload is something we all suffer from but it is so helpful when it is put into perspective as you have done.

I really appreciate the part about it being a layering process. So many times I have been to quick to think…¨No results, must not work on to the next thing.¨

All your points are really good but that one speaks to me personally as it helps my attitude, focus, and overall celebration of being who God has made me to be.

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Ann,
I agree with you – that tip resonated with me the most too, and similarly with most of my readers.

Have a Blessed Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
      – Carol

  • Beverley G.

    Hi Carol,

thank you so much for reachng out to me. I appreciate the five tips and will print them out to remind myself until I follow them routinely. I would love to receive a copy of your e-book that I am sure will be extremely helpful. I am presently at that frozen where I have not yet implemented the two programs that I bought, but intend to have both in place before 2012. I appreciate your help very muc and will be keeping in touch with many questions, I know. Beverley G.

  • ANNA

Thank you Carol for your tips, I really appreciate that.
Yes, I have bin searching on an internet for work from home for quiet long time but everythong I got, was just spending money for nothing. Once my son said: mother, live it alon, there are no money on an internet, you are just loosing your time. But somewhere in a corner of my heart I fill that he is wrong, and you Carol sound to me as a proof.

    • Carol Amato

      Hello Anna!
Yes, there is definitely money to be made on the Internet, but it is not for everyone. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and my husband and I have been business owners for many years. I also used to sell on eBay, so had a little head start. lol
If you are willing to learn the new necessary skills in order to start, that is great!
Thanks for stopping by. – Carol

  • John Ignacia

There is a overload of information on my e-mail. I don’t even know where to start. My mistake is that I am going crazy trying to make money online. So I bought and gathered to much information from different sources. Now I am confused. But you are the one who inspires me. Help me out here Carol. Show step to step how to begin and go on on my own. John

    • Carol Amato

      Hi John,

I can definitely relate to what you’re saying about information overload – as I experienced that in the beginning part of my business. At times, I still have to keep myself in check regarding allowing too much information to come my way.

The first step is to decide what your market will be… What are you interested in? What are you passionate about? What do you have a lot of knowledge in? THAT should be the place to start to determine what market/niche you get started in.

Then, you would register a domain name based upon the market you chose. John, my entire business is based upon list building, and I have interwoven affiliate marketing throughout the entire process.

If you haven’t watched my Golden Nuggets video training yet, I highly recommend it as this will give you the core components of how I make money online and what tools are necessary to do so.

I hope to help a little bit. Have a great day :-)

      – Carol

  • Carolyn Dickerson

Thank you for the five tips to help keep me on track. Thank you for keeping it true and real.

    • Carol Amato

  • Rudy Arcega

I’ve came across your website through Anthony Morrison. I am starting my business as an Internet marketer and I would like to thank you for all the tips you’ve given me through e-mails and your website. I am building my website through Bluehost and they have a selections of WordPress Themes for $49.95. Is it beneficial for me to use one of theirs or should I make my own using the steps they’ve provided? I have not built a website before… what do you suggest? By the way I like the setup of your website. Thank you and have a great day!

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Randy,

You’re welcome. The free WordPress themes are just fine in my opinion.
However, having said that, I did purchase Thesis because it came highly recommended and was optimized for SEO.

You can always get a paid theme later if you don’t have a budget for it now.

My site didn’t always look like this, it has evolved over time as I have tweaked it along the way. It takes a lot of work and there is a learning curve, but I enjoyed every bit of it. :-)

Hi Carol, I am very new to affiliate marketing. I need to start a website. How do I make one and which company has the best deal? Thank you very much and hoping for your response.

    • Carol Amato

      Hello Jap,

affiliate marketing is a part of the broader Internet marketing…

My business model is based on list building, and you’ll find that anyone making serious money has a similar business model. There are several necessary components needed in order to get started. Have you seen my Golden Nuggets – Internet Marketing Basics video? I sent the link in your first email from me yesterday. If you can’t find it let me know, but I would start with that video. Don’t forget to take the challenge I give at the end! :)

      Hope to help.

      Hello Karen,

Yep, we all suffer from information overload from time to time, even us experienced marketers.
Is a learning process from the very beginning and continues to be so.

Thank you so much for the kind words – much appreciated. :-)
      Have a wonderful day.

Tip #2 and #3 are especially important–and sometimes hard to remember. Information overload can keep you from doing anything productive, but the temptation is to try to read everything that comes across your desk or email for fear that you might be missing that one best tip or idea. And remembering that each little step moves you forward is very important. If you try to accelerate from 0 to 100 mph you just end up squashed against the back window!

    • Carol Amato

      Hi Christina!

I think each of us struggles more with different ones….in the beginning, it was information overload, but now, I pace myself, focus on what I have for my tasks for that day, so it’s not an issue much any more.

I agree! Thanks for the “word picture” about going too fast! lol
Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts. :)

Hi Carol I have been reading the blogs and I see that I am not the only one that feels overwhelmed with how to get started into the Affiliate Marketing Business. You are right about alot of information at one time, and you do feel as though your head is spining and you will not ever be able to do this. There are so many steps to take before you are able to advertise on the internet. I am a computer illiterate, which makes it even harder to do things as far as Affiliate Marketing goes, I never heard of any of these websites, have no clue what the computer lingo is.
I have no idea how to my a webpage or what a landing page is, I tried putting an ad on facebook, with no luck, and than stopped because I didn’t know how to get pictures on the ad. So I am still at ground zero. I signed up for this at the beginning of June, but first I had to get a fictitious name, than you have to register it, and there is so much stuff that has to be done before you can even get started, as I said before it makes your head spin. I just hope that after all of this, I can do this.
I know think positive, and believe me, I’m trying.
Thank You for the encouraging words.

      Hi Marian,

I do understand as it’s very easy to feel overwhelmed. It is definitely a layering process and if you find a great business model, and go step-by-step, it is definitely doable.! :)

I am in Internet marketing and have never advertized yet! I don’t think you should be concentrating on ads at all. Choose a market by seeing what you’re knowledgeable about and passionate about, do the research (possibly using someone on Fivver like I talk about on my Start Here page) and then register a domain name. Building a list is critically important, as this is the very foundation of my business model.

Hope to encourage you a bit.
